Summer Pecha Kucha Barnsley

Summer is here – time for Barnsley’s second Pecha Kucha Night which will be held at the Digital Media Centre on Thursday August 25th, 6.30pm – 8.30pm www.pknbarnsley2.eventbrite.com

If you missed the first of these informal, effective and, frankly, fun creative networking events, here is what it is all about….

Pecha Kucha Night involves a selection of speakers making bright and brief presentations showing 20 slides for just 20 seconds each. The 20×20 format devised by Klein Dytham Architecture in Tokyo back in 2003 means that no-one speaks for longer than six minutes and 40 seconds, and we all enjoy a rich and random variety of presentations featuring personal projects, passions and ideas.

There is then plenty of time to meet and mingle with the speakers and other members of the creative business sector – and there’s plenty to talk about! Speakers at our last event got us discussing how much we trust the internet, the growing potential to tell our stories through video releases, the campaign to get morris dancing at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics and very much more!

Pecha Kucha Nights are already well-established in Huddersfield, Sheffield, Manchester, London and over 300 towns and cities around the world – see www.pecha-kucha.org to find out more. As part of Enterprising Barnsley’s creative networking programme, this second Barnsley event is our own creative business community’s opportunity to get together, share news, knowledge and views and build potentially valuable new relationships by having a good old chat. Pecha Kucha literally translates as ‘the sound of chatter’.

If you would like to present a 20×20 presentation at this event, please email info@creativebarnsley.co.uk with your proposal by Friday August 12th. We will then select a range of speakers to make for a varied evening and let you know if you make the line-up this time. Pecha Kucha are not sales pitches – think about what story you’d like to tell; what skill you’d like to demonstrate or what enthusiasim you’d like to share. Or just come along and enjoy.

We are aware this Pecha Kucha Night falls near the August bank holiday, but we didn’t want to miss the opportunity for a feel-good summer networking event. If you are not away, then come on down – you never know what you might learn about and who you might meet. Complimentary drinks will be served.

Networking events are hosted by Creative Barnsley on behalf of the Enterprising Barnsley business support programme

The next Pecha Kucha Night will be held on Thursday October 27th.
